Jack’d UP from Hi-tech pharmaceuticals – an introduction

In the last post I covered the details of Conquer from iForce. Now it’s time for another PWO review. Jack’d Up from Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals is a pre-workout supplement and although it’s one of the newer pwo’s on the market, its already very popular, and for a good reason, which you might already have guessed (simply from the name of the supplement.)

If you loved the original Jack3d from USP labs, you will probably want to get yourself a jar of this stuff.

What sets Jack’d apart from the majority of other pre workout supplemenets on the market today is the addition of DMAA – the substance that made the original Jack3d so popular. In addition to this, it comes with some caffeine, creatine, beta alanine and some other stuff. But before we get to the details, lets see what the company behind the supplement has to say about Jack’d.

Supplement Facts In Details

The substances used in Jack’d Up have been listed above. Unfortunately, everything in Jack’d Up comes in one big prop. blend so we don’t know how much of what we get. However, we do know that one scoop is a total of 5.55 grams. Interestingly, the prop. blend is listed as a total of 4,145 mg. so I wonder what the rest is. That question will be left unanswered. Now with the list above, let’s take a closer look at the substances in details. Here goes.

L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate

L-Arginine AKG: L-Arginine is a non-essential amino acid that, among others, is involved in the production of nitric oxide. L-Arginine has demonstrated its ability to increase the NO (nitric oxide) production in blood vessels in several different studies. L-Arginine AKG should be superior to L-Arginine from a delivery and absorption perspective, giving the user longer and better “pumps”.

Creatine Nitrate

creatine nitrate is creatine bound to a nitrate salt, often listed as CreNitrate.I have covered Nitrates before here on muscles.zone. It’s a chemical compound which, when ingested, is converted nitrite which is then converted into Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide has been studied heavily from a bodybuilding perspective, and is loved by anyone looking for a better pump. The idea with creatine nitrate is that the nitrate will enhances the absorption of the Creatine portion, which has some truth to it. However, I think the true benefit of creatine nitrate is that you get creatine and nitrates.

Creatine HCL

Creatine HCL, short for creatine hydrochloride is made by attaching a hydrochloride group to creatine. The idea here is that by attaching a hydrochloride group to creatine we enhance its stability and solubility. Unfortunately there isnt a whole lot of studies on this stuff, but its debated heavily on various bodybuilding and supplement sites. Jim S. for one, is a true fan of creatine hydrochloride.

DISODIUM creatine phosphate

Yet another creatine variation (which is new to me). There really isnt a whole lot of information out there on this stuff, but I assume the idea here is that Disodium Creatine Phosphate will be more stable in water than normal creatine monohydrate with a slower degradation.

Creatine monohydrate

The standard stuff thats been on the market for years. It’s been proven time and time again to be beneficial for anyone looking to gain strength and muscle mass. Creatine Monohydrate is cheap and you can be sure they carry it in your local supplement store. Results from a cycle with creatine monohydrate are good and side-effects are minimal.

beta alanine

Beta Alanine: Its a brilliant substance from a bodybuilding perspective and one of my personal favorites. 2,000 mg is the sweet spot for me, which is probably more than what we are getting here. See this post or more information on Beta Alanine, and this post if you ever had any doubts on the effects from Beta Alanine.

We all know what this is and what it does. There is some synergy from this when combined with DMAA.

1,3 Dimethylamylamine HCL (DMAA)

DMAA (which is also known as 1,3 dimethylamylamine, methylhaxaneamine, 4-methyl-2-hexaneamine, 2-amino-4-methylhexane, geranium extract, Geranamine and geranium oil) is a substance that was used heavily in supplements in recent years (less so now though, due to the famous ban (which wasn’t really a ban). The effects from this substance is very similar to that of ephedrine. It was first seen in the supplement world in energizing supplement AMP from ErgoPharm by Patrick Arnold, years ago. It really caught people’s attention when Jack3d was released – a supplement that got extremely popular, specially due to DMAA. Jack3d was discontinue and this supplement is clearly an attempt to catch the attention of the same fans – the name of the supplement is almost identical, and it contains DMAA. Short version here is that DMAA works very well, but there are very mixed feelings about the potential side-effects from it.

Schisandra chinensis

Schisandra is an ingredient that supports cognitive functions of the body. It reduces inflammation in the brain and enhances the synaptic transmissions.

Agmatine sulphate

Agmatine Sulfate (which occasionally is listed a AgmaPure – but not in Conquer) acts as an anti-oxidant, appears to help regulate the levels of Nitric Oxide and should allegedly be able to give the user a focus boost. The most interesting aspect of agmatine sulfate is it’s effect on hyperemia (pump); typically NO related substances are used with the intention of increasing the NO levels. Agmatine sulfate however, works as a pump amplifier by prolonging its lifespan by preventing NO breakdown. I have no complaints here; good stuff.

Pump, Energy, Focus & Endurance

You are clearly going to get a good bump of energy going with a scoop of Jack’d due to DMAA combined with a bunch of caffeine and a bit of Schisandra. Needless to say that energy and focus are the key effects from this supplement. We do have a bit of beta alanine for better pumps, along with creatine nitrate where the nitrate will add to the pump, and of course the L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate will do its job here too. Creatine wise, I think it’s underdosed, and in my opinion, better suited for a post workout supplement.

Side Effects

There is potential for side-effects here with the addition of DMAA (and the combination of this with caffeine). There is a reason to think twice about using this supplement. If you plan to do so, make sure to stay within the recommended dose.

Price Per Serving and Ratings

Jack’d Up will cost you a total of $31 for a jar with 45 servings meaning that the price per serving comes out at $0.68 which seems to be very fair. Jack’d Up has not been rated on supplementreviews and the supplement is not even listed on bodybuilding.com. There is however, a lot of talk about the supplement on various forums, so do a search for it, if you want to read more experiences people have had with this stuff.

Verdict of Jack’d Up

It’s already a popular supplement, and I think its fair to say that this is mostly because it contains DMAA. The rest of the stuff isn’t groundbreaking. The dosage seems to be slightly underdosed, at least from a creatine and beta-alanine perspective, but this is difficult to say for sure, both since creatine variations have been used, and the whole thing is listed as one big prop. blend. If you need energy, this is going to work. But DMAA is not completely safe! Everything is listed in a prop. blend and besides from DMAA, the mix is not that interesting. But DMAA sure makes it stand out from the crowd today.
