In the last post I wrote about my experience with the popular pre workout supplement named Assault from Muscle Pharm. Before that I shared some thoughts on the new, popular and now banned DMAA alternative; DMBA / AMP Citrate.
Today I will take a closer look at one of the newcomers in the pre workout supplement category;
The Curse from Cobra Labs
I clearly remember the first time I saw this PWO. The design was different from the rest; a skull on a black background which, in my opinion, clearly sent a message of this stuff being borderline dangerous. The strategy seemed to work. The Curse from Cobra Labs is everywhere and I see it getting more reviews on vendor sites than what is true for typical pre-workout supplements.
Cobra Labs is also different in that they don’t have a wide range of different supplements. As of now, their product portfolio counts a total of two supplements;
The Curse: The Ultimate Pre Workout
The Ripper: The Ultimate Fat Burner
Its a tiny selection but they sure did make a name for themselves. I spoke to of the guys in the local supplement store the other day and he told me that the curse is one of their best selling pre workout supplements. So yeah..
Here is what Cobra Labs has to say about The Curse:
EXTREME MENTAL FOCUS
HUGE MUSCLE PUMPS
BIG 50 SERVES PER TUB
The Curse is one of the most powerful and mind blowing pre workout energy products on the planet today.
You really do have to try this stuff to truly appreciate just how good it is…1 or 2 scoops in 4-8 ounces of water and BOOM…30 minutes later all you’ll want to do is hit the gym and tear it to pieces.
Intense mental focus, massive increase in energy and a mad aggressive desire to push yourself past the limits of normal human endurance.
Nothing will stand in your way, the weights will crumble around you.
You’ve tried the rest so now try the best…The Curse…Unleash Hell !!
Alright, it sure sounds good, but how does it actually stack up? Let’s take a closer look at the supplement facts. Here goes:
The Curse – Supplement Facts
Serving Size 1 Scoop (5 g)
Servings Per Container 50
Energizing Muscle Fuel Blend 3,000mg
CarnoSyn® (Beta-Alanine), Creatine Monohydrate, Citric Acid
Blood Flow Amplifier Blend 1,000mg
L-Citrulline, L-Arginine AKG
Mind Control Matrix 147mg
Caffeine Anhydrous 145mg, Olive Leaf Extract, (40% Oleuropein)
That’s it guys. Stable substances which is used in almost every single pre workout supplement out there, but there really isn’t anything out of the (very) ordinary here. In addition to that, everything is listed in partial prop. blends so we won’t know exactly how much of what we get when taking a serving of The Curse.
There isnt anything new in The Curse that I haven’t posted about before, here on muscles.zone.
Beta Alanine: Its a brilliant substance from a bodybuilding perspective and one of my personal favorites. 2,000 mg is the sweet spot for me, which is probably close to what we are getting here. See this post or more information on Beta Alanine, and this post if you ever had any doubts on the effects from Beta Alanine.
Creatine Monohydrate: One of the most studied substances from a bodybuilding perspective. There is no doubt about the benefits here. Read more on creatine monohydrate and other types of creatine here.
L-Citrulline: This stuff supports the optimization of blood flow to the tissues. It helps to reduce the lactic acid build-up that in short will speed up recovery, and optimize your performance at the gym. It’s a solid substance with proven benefits.
L-Arginine AKG: L-Arginine is a non-essential amino acid that, among others, is involved in the production of nitric oxide. L-Arginine has demonstrated its ability to increase the NO (nitric oxide) production in blood vessels in several different studies. L-Arginine AKG should be superior to L-Arginine from a delivery and absorption perspective, giving the user longer and better “pumps”.
Finally, we got some Caffeine Anhydrous (145 mg) and some Olive Leaf Extract. Personally I think the caffeine level is too low, and the same is probably true for the other substances as well, but due to the use of prop. blends, I can’t say for sure. Olive Leaf Extract is the only thing that makes The Curse stand apart from other pre workout supplements. It’s not a commonly used substance in pre workout supplements as most studies show benefits from Olive Leaf Extract in relation to fat loss (its included in Alphamine from PES, for one). I am not sure why this has been added to The Curse, but it’s there, nonetheless.
Anyhow, lets continue on to…
h2>The Curse – Flavor, jar sizes and price per serving
The Curse comes in several different flavors; Orange Mango, Watermelon, Lemon Rush, Electric Blue, Green Apple and Tropical Storm.
I haven’t tested The Curse so I cannot share any more specific details on the flavors, but based on reviews on SupplementReviews, people seem to rate the flavor of the Curse from average to good.
The Curse is sold in a jar with 50 servings. You can also purchase sample packs with just 3 or 5 servings, if you want to test things before you go all in. I can only find the sample packs on Bodybuilding.com where you can get a 3 serving sample for $7.13 and a 5 serving sample for $9.13. For a full jar with 50 servings on bodybuilding.com will cost you a total of $29.78. Your cheapest option is to buy it on Amazon, where you can get a jar with 50 servings for a total price of $22.00 (get it second) meaning that the price per servings comes to a total of $0.44 which, for a standard PWO, seems to be a pretty good deal.
The Curse from Cobra Labs currently has a rating of 8.4 out of 10 on bodybuilding.com which is based on 431 reviews. On Supplementreviews.com, The Curse is ranking at spot 107 out of 173 in the category pre workout supplements –> Stimulant; it is listed with an overall score of 7.5 out of 10.
The Curse from Cobra Labs – Verdict
Basically, I think it looks like a solid PWO, but there is nothing crazy here, which you might be led to believe, after seeing the “logo” on the jar.
I think the following statement from a user at SupplementReviews is very true for a lot of potential clients:
I wanna try this just cuz of the sick container…
I think its a solid choice for people who are new to pre workout supplements, who want to give it a go. I think it’s fair to say that this might be a bit of a letdown when compared to the promises listed on the label, but thats probably a good thing for the newbies out there. Personally, I would stick to something like Assault for Pre Jym for the time being.
Thats my two cents on The Curse. Have you tested this PWO, then please do share your thoughts on it. [affegg id=44]
