JYM Supplement Science and Pre jym: An introduction
Pre Jym is one of the more popular pre-workout supplements on the market today, and for a good reason. It has been on the market for a couple of years now, and there is quite a history to cover on this. I will do my best to cover all the details as accurate as possible, for those of you interested in this story. Further down, you will find my personal review on Pre Jym. I ran through a jar of this supplement and decided to share my thoughts on it. You will also find a section where I compare Pre Jym to the other popular pre-workout supplement Pre Kaged. If there is anything you would like to know about Pre Jym that hasn’t been covered in this article, simply drop a comment below and let me know, and I will make sure to get your question and my thoughts on it, added to this post. But before I get to all that, here is an up-to-date deal on Pre Jym at bodybuilding.com.
Update July. 2017
Note that I used to have a couple of different posts related to pre jym here on muscles.zone. I have decided to redirect all these posts to this page, and combine all the information in here. I personally think this is a better way to present the information to my readers. Just in case you find this slightly confusing, simply use the table of content below, to jump right to the section you want to read more about.
Jim Stoppani is the guy behind the JYM Supplement Science. The brand carries several different supplements such as Shred Jym, Pro Jym, Post Jym, Alpha Jym and the popular Pre Jym. Below, you will find the most recent list of all the diferent supplements from JYM Supplement Science.
The attentive reader will note that the design has changed a bit when compared to the original product line – and this is where the story comes in. Note that the focus of this post is Pre Jym, but before I get to the details of that very supplement, I will be covering the details of the history of Jym Supplement Science.
Jym Supplement Science, Jim Stoppani and bodybuilding.com
A couple of years ago, the well known bodybuilding guru, Jim Stoppani, launched his own supplement line from his company JYM Supplement Science. These supplements were sold exclusively through bodybuilding.com – and they got very popular very fast. A good deal for both parties, and some very solid supplements for all the clients. The JYM Supplement line was different in that they came with transparent labels, with clinical dosing of the various substances used, all developed by a well-known and trusted individual in the bodybuilding space.
Now fast forward a couple of years and that relationsship between Jim Stoppani and bodybuilding.com is long gone. Both parties apparently got into a serious disagreement on who actually owns the brand name Jym. This is, as far as I am aware, yet to be determined, but for now, you can buy the original Pre Jym Supplement from bodybuilding.com. For now Pre Jym is not being sold at bodybuilding.com anymore as far as I can tell. You can buy the new Pre Jym from GNC. As mentioned above, the design on the new Pre Jym is different from the original one and the price is a bit higher but besides from this, everything else seems to be the same.
Pre JYM is ranked as the second best pre workout on supplementreviews.com and is ranked as the number 29 highest rated PWOs on bodybuilding.com.
It’s probably one of the most talked about PWOs in 2014. Because of this, I decided to post a complete and detailed review of this product, so you can decide if this is for you or not. I did cover some details of Pre Jym in this post. However, at the time, I hadn’t tested the PWO. Now I have, and due to the popularity of this supplement, I have decided to share all my thoughts on this supplement.
pre jym claims
Jim Stoppani calls Pre JYM a “Scientifically Advanced All-In-One Formula for Improved Workouts” and it probably is one of the most complete pre-workout powders on the market. It does, however, come with a heavy price tag, which could turn potential buyers off.
Welcome to my latest creation: JYM Supplement Science. JYM combines real science with real ingredients to deliver unreal results. Pre JYM, my cutting-edge pre-workout product, is poised to revolutionize the pre-workout category.
Supplement companies love to claim they’ve created a real “game-changer.” Pre JYM doesn’t play that game. It doesn’t need hype or flashy marketing. With 13 hand-picked ingredients included at full doses, Pre JYM is in a league of its own.
Put simply, Pre JYM is the most effective pre-workout supplement ever developed. It’s built on solid science, years of study, and decades of professional experience. Nothing is hidden and there is no filler. Pre JYM is research made real. It’s pure pre-workout fuel.
PWOs tend to be either pump amplifiers or energy maximisers. Pre JYM is a combination that will maximize your energy, pumps, recovery and muscle building efforts. It is in the more expensive range when compared to other PWOs, so let’s dive in and see exactly what Pre Jym contains, the effects I got from it and if its worth the price. Here goes:
First of all, Pre JYM does not have any prop. blends. Everything is disclosed, which is a positive aspect in my book. It is, naturally, still difficult for the end user to judge whether the substance dosing is appropriate or not, but with all details disclosed, you will at least have an idea of what and how much of it, you get.

Jim claims that his latest creation Pre JYM combines real science with real ingredients to deliver unreal results. Pre JYM, my cutting-edge pre-workout product, is poised to revolutionize the pre-workout category. So yeah, promises are high and the same is true for the price. Let’s take a look at the details of the supplement facts:
Creatine HCL, short for creatine hydrochloride is made by attaching a hydrochloride group to creatine. The idea here is that by attaching a hydrochloride group to creatine it enhance its stability and solubility. Unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot of studies on this stuff, but it’s debated heavily on various bodybuilding and supplement sites.
Over the years we have seen lots and lots of new creatine variations, and majority of these have been proven to be no more effective (often less though), than the good old creatine monohydrate. There are however two variations, that always seem to stand out; creatine hydrochloride and creatine nitrate. When reading up on people’s personal experience with this stuff, it does seem like these two alternatives might be superior to monohydrate. Seeing this type of creatine in pre-workout supplements is quite common today, but the dosage you get here is definitely higher than what you tend to get in other supplements. Read this post for more information on all the new creatine variations.
One of the most recognized substances that you will find in almost every single pre-workout supplement on the market. I am personally a fan of beta-alanine. Lots of studies have shown that beta-alanine will have a positive impact on your bodybuilding efforts.
Beta Alanine is the limiting precursor to the formation of Carnosine in our muscles. There is enough scientific evidence now to prove that when adequate dosage of Beta Alanine is given to bodybuilders, there is an increase in Carnosine formation in the body.
The short version is that supplementing with beta alanine will improve endurance, performance and strength, and combat fatigue. In Pre JYM we get a total of 2,000 mg. This is enough to give you a heavy tingling sensation, which you probably either hate or love. PersonallyI am a big fan.
his is an amino acid (which is also known as Trimethylglycine) that has been well studied and shown to help enhance strength, power and muscle mass through boosting your muscle protein synthesis, as well as promoting fat loss. Most studies showing benefit from a performance enhancing perspective is with individuals using around 2.5 grams daily, so the dosage falls a bit short here, but then again, 1.5 grams is definitely enough to make a difference and should get you a good boost to get going once you hit the gym.
You will find it in almost every single energy drink on the market, and yet few people tend to know what it does. Taurine is actually an amino acid – a conditionally essential amino acid meaning that it’s synthesis can be limited under special pathophysiological conditions.
It acts as a cell hydration agent by pulling water into the cells. In addition to hydration, this also gives the user what some will consider a benefit – a water-based pump. Opinions on this matter are very shattered. Some likes it while others don’t. It’s kind of the creatine bloat talk all over again. Finally, it has been shown to enhance endurance, focus and reduce soreness.
Cysteine is a non-essential amino acid (in rare cases semi-essential). Cysteine helps to produce the antioxidants glutathione and taurine. The N-Acetyl form of L-Cysteine is believed to be more bioavailable than just the L-form. N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC) has been shown to increases glutathione levels and helps to preserve lean muscle mass. It has also been shown to improve exercise performance and increase time to fatigue.
Choline supplements are water-soluble nutrients, and often used in supplements with the intention of enhancing cognition and focus. Choline often forms part of b-vitamin complexes. AlphaSize® A-GPC is a choline supplement, and its considered to one of the best on the market, mainly from a bioavailability perspective.
The benefits from a pre workout perspective includes improved cognition, mood and focus. Although this isn’t directly PWO related, it has also been shown to improve GH levels.
As mentioned before here on muscles.zone, Citrulline Malate is a proven energy booster and a substance I welcome in my pre-workout supplements. It’s a precursor to the amino acid Arginine that has been shown to work effectively as a performance enhancer. By increasing ATP production during workouts, subjects who have tried this substance were able to perform significantly more reps, and with less muscle soreness as well
Beta Vulgaris L.
Beet extract is often highlighted as one of the best sources for nitrates which will boost your Nitric Oxide levels, giving you the pump.
I have covered the details of nitrates several times before here on muscles.zone. Its a common pre-workout substance, and one of my personal favorites. Nitrates will, when ingested, convert to nitrite which is then converted into Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide has been studied heavily from a bodybuilding perspective and has primarily been shown to increase muscle pumps, increase glucose use, enhance endurance, reduce fatigue and increase recovery rates.
BCAA (branched-chain amino acids) are often used in intra-workout supplements, but also often seen as part offormula in pre-workout supplements. The 2:1:1 BCAA ratio is common among amino acid supplements. L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine support protein synthesis, which increases muscle growth and recovery. Studies have shown that they are most effective when combined.
L-Tyrosine: I have mentioned this substance several times before here onmuscles.zone. L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid which produces noradrenaline and dopamine.
While the conversion steps of L-tyrosine to dopamine occurs predominantly in the cytoplasm, the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine by dopamine β-hydroxylase occurs predominantly in the neurotransmitter vesicle
There are several studies documenting the effects from L-Tyrosine, which include stress relief, cognitive enhancement, fat burning, mood improvement. It’s a typical substance in pre workout supplements, due to the above-listed benefits. The typical dosage is around 200 – 300mg. Here in Pre JYM we get a massive 1.5 g!
The good old caffeine and at a decent dosage. We all know what this stuff does, but just in case you have been you have been living under a rock, here is the short version: It will give you a physical and mental energy boost.
This is done in different ways, for one by boosting the effects of serotonin, acetylcholine and dopamine. It also blocks adenosine receptors and increase the release of catecholamines. All in all this allows your body to send more blood to your muscles, release sugar for energy and make your heart beat faster.
Huperzine A is the substance that made Myokem’s Nitramine so popular. Huperzine A is, often used in nootropics, mainly as a memory-enhancing supplement which is also being investigated as a treatment for Alzheimer’s and age-related memory loss. It is believed to promote better learning, focus and neuroplasticity, and now almost seen as a standard substance in pre workout supplements
Bioperine is an extract of black pepper. It helps to increase the absorption of the ingredients contained in the supplement
taste and mixability
Pre Jym is sold with two different flavors. Cherry Limeade and Raspberry Lemonade. I tried the Cherry limeade and overall I think its really good. Sure its a bit sour, but I prefer that over a very sweet taste, which is often the alternative. Compared to other PWOs I have tested, the flavor of Pre Jym is really good. I haven’t tried the Raspberry Lemonade, but based on other reviews I have read, that should be pretty good as well. The choice of these two flavors is still a bit odd though (in my opinion). A serving of Pre Jym in water mixes really well. If you don’t drink it right after shaking, you will see a bit of sediment but nothing that another shake can’t handle.
The short version here is that Pre Jym is really good as a preworkout supplement. I got a good clean boost of energy before my workout routine. No jittery, expected tingles from the BA and no signs of a crash post workout. Personally, I noticed more of a stimulant / focus effect from Pre Jym than a pump increase. The effects kick in after some 15 – 30 minutes, and last for hours.
I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. The stimulant dosings alone makes it a bad choice for late night workout sessions but that is pretty much it. 2 grams of Beta Alanine will give you some tinging which some might consider a side effect although it isn’t really.
Price per serving
Pre Jym is sold exclusively through BodyBuilding.com. Its sold in jars giving you 20 servings for a total price of $35 meaning that the price per serving comes out at: $1.75. Some will consider this to be an expensive PWO relative to other PWO’s. However, the profile of Pre Jym and the effect you get from it is what makes it stand out, and
As mentioned in the beginning, Pre JYM is ranked as the number one preworkout supplement on supplementreviews, and is the 29 highest rated PWOs on bodybuilding.com. On Supplementreviews is has a rating of 8.9 out of 10 and on bodybuilding.com it has an overall rating of 9.4 out of 10. The rating on bb is based on a total of 2,105 reviews. On SR there is a total of 7 reviews, but the rating must be based on more votes as the overall rating of the 7 reviews doesnt add up to the average top score. Basically, a lot of people really seem to like Pre Jym and so do I.
