SP250 – Gaspari: Review

I have been a fan of the different SuperPump pre-workout supplements that Gaspari has released over the years. Not long ago, Gaspari came out with the latest SuperPump pre-workout named SP250. This is one of the first supplements on the market that contains the hyped Eria Jarensis Extract, said to be the new DMAA alternative.

Being a fan of the other SuperPump PWO’s, I decided to give SP250 a try. I have now been testing this for a while and though it was about time to share a review. Before I get to the details of SP250, lets first see what Gaspari has to say about their new supplement; SP250. Here goes;

A lot of stuff, clearly, and yet the serving size is “only” a chunk of 10g. But luckily for us, the serving size is only a small part of the whole picture. Let’s move on the substances used, as this can (and in this case does) make up for the low dosage.

First of all, we are getting a perfect dose of beta-alanine with a total of 3200 mg. This is a brilliant substance that is going to help you hit it at the gym. I have posted about this substance several times before here on muscles.zone. You can read more about it here and here. We tend to see PWO’s coming with around 2,000 mg but here we get the clinically tested dosage of 3,200 mg. Good stuff.

Creatine Hydrochloride

Next on the list we got Creatine Hydrochloride which you can read more about in this guide on creatine. Creatine Hydrochloride is one of the most popular alternatives among all of the new designer creatines. Unfortunately, we only get 1,000 mg here. In my opinion, I would prefer to get this from a post-workout supplement and in a proper dose.

L-Citrulline Malate

L-Citrulline Malate is another proven energy booster and a very common substance in pre-workout supplements. Citrulline Malate is a precursor to the amino acid Arginine that has been shown to work effectively as a performance enhancer. By increasing ATP production during workouts, subjects who have tried this substance were able to perform significantly more reps, and with less muscle soreness as well. Here, I also question the dose. We normally see way more than 1,000 mg of Citrulline Malate in pre-workout supplements, but not in this case. Luckily for us, there are other substances to make up for low-dosed Citrulline Malate.

S-(2-boronethyl)-L-cysteine is said to be an Arginase inhibitor, which because of this, indirectly gives an increase in circulating arginine levels which equate to more NO. This is however, a new substance that I have never seen in any other pre-workout supplement, and there still isn’t much data on this stuff, which makes it difficult to give any real conclusion on this substance.

SP250 CogniDRIVE Matrix

The CogniDRIVE Matrix is the first prop. blend in SP250 from Gaspari and is packed with 3,000 mg of the following: 3000mgTaurine, L-Tyrosine, Glucuronolactone, DMAE Bitartrate, Choline Bitartrate, Glycerol Monostearate and Agmatine Sulfate.There is nothing we new here. We have seen it all before – solid and proven substances that I have highlighted over and over again here on muscles.zone. With a prop. blend we only know that substances are listed in descending order of predominance by weight, meaning we get the highest dose of the first listed substance and so on; we don’t actually know how much of each substance we get from a scoop of SP250.

Insane Energy Blend

Finally, SP250 is finished off with the 750 mg Insane Energy Blend which consists of the following: Eria Jarensis Extract, Caffeine Anhydrouse, Theobroma Cacao Extract ()seed), Citrus Rx Complex [Citrus Natsudaidai Hayata Extract (fruit), Citrus Junos Sieb, Ex Tanaka Extract (fruit), Citrus limonium Extract (fruit), Citrus Aurantium Extract (fruit) and Theacrine.This blend is a mixed bag of tried and tested substances combined with more novel ones. In my opinion, the one that truly stands out here and makes SP250 truly effective is the Eria Jarensis Extract (and synergies from the other substances in the insane energy blend). I have written a post about the details of Eria Jarensis Extract which you can read right here. It is said to be a solid DMAA alternative.

Verdict on SP250 from Gaspari

Let me be very clear about this – SP250 is a powerful pre-workout supplement! There is no doubt about that; specially the energy / focus side of things is just crazy. Pumps are good too, and a lot better than I expected. Maybe there really is something to the S-(2-boronethyl)-L-cysteine after all. The energy kicks in quickly, about the same time when you start to feel the tingle from the beta-alanine. It kicks in hard at just one scoop, so you definitely dont want to go with more than one scoop (for starters at least). This is, in my opinion, just as strong (if not, stronger) as geranium oil extract, but on a different kind of level. It kicks in harder, and wears off faster (but it still lasts for hours). It’s too strong for my personal taste, but I am sure a lot of stim fanatics will go crazy for this stuff. It really does get you going, like no other pre-workout I have tried for a long long time.
