Vaso Sport from MusclePharm (Review)

In the last post I shared my thoughts on the new 2016 version of Assault from MusclePharm which you can read here. The short version of that review is that the new Assault isnt as interesting as the former version, but it might be a good option if stacked with the new Nitric Oxide boosting supplement Vaso Sport – And this is the supplement I will be taking a closer look at today. But before I get to details of this, make sure to also read my review on the former version of Assault (as it’s still very possible to get a jar of it, here and there).

You can read my review of the original Assault here: Assault from MusclePhafrom. I also wrote a short post, comparing the former version of Assault with Assault Black. Now with that being said, let’s move on to today’s review on Vaso Sport. Here goes.

Now before we look at the substances used in this pre-workout supplement, please note that I have not tested Vaso Sport personally. This review is solely based on the supplement facts and not on any personal experience.

VASOSPORT is a stimulant-free pre-workout supplement that provides Citrulline Malate plus Agmatine Sulfate and Nitrosigine™ to deliver a superior, sustainable muscular pump effect to take your workouts to new heights!* Citrulline Malate combines 2 parts L-Citrulline, an amino acid that converts to arginine to produce nitric oxide (N.O.) in the body, with 1 part malic acid, a kreb’s cycle (citric acid cycle) intermediate which helps to produce energy.* Agmatine Sulfate, while a very effective vasodilator, can also inhibit nitric oxide synthase to prevent itself from being broken down, allowing it to remain active longer and also prolonging its pump-inducing effects.* Nitrosigine™, the third member of the vasodilating components within VasoSport, is inositol-stabilized Arginine ionically bonded with Silicon. This bond increases the vasodilating effects of Arginine while simultaneously boosting the blood vessel relaxation benefits of silicon.* This bonded material can remain active in the blood for up to 3 hours. Taurine serves as the electrolyte regulator, ensuring a proper balance of the added electrolytes are delivered to the muscles in order to keep them adequately hydrated.*

Vaso Sport – Supplement Facts

L-Citrulline Malate

This is a cardiovascular supplement that greatly enhances performance. It increases muscle endurance enabling the body to push harder and for longer. Studies on athletes have shown a very significant boost in nitric oxide which helped them perform better.

Nitrosigine® (Inositol-Stabilized Arginine Silicate)

Nitrosigine® is a patented formulation by Nutrition 21, LLC. It is a complex of bonded arginine silicate and has already received the GRAS (Generally Accepted as Safe) status from the FDA. Though I could not find any evidence to support the immediacy of its effectiveness as claimed by, it is true that a clinical study published in May 2014 in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Journal (FASEB) did show that Nitrosigine does indeed boost levels of nitric oxide, a key factor in promoting relaxation of smooth muscle in blood vessels, increasing blood flow.

The clinical study quoted above found no adverse reactions or side effects associated with Nitrosigine®. In any case, the side effects should be closely related to those associated with Arginine. These are invariably mild and take the form of abdominal discomfort, bloating and diarrhea.

Agmatine Sulfate

Agmatine Sulfate (which occasionally is listed a AgmaPure) acts as an anti-oxidant, appears to help regulate the levels of Nitric Oxide and should allegedly be able to give the user a focus boost. The most interesting aspect of agmatine sulfate is it’s effect on hyperemia (pump); typically NO related substances are used with the intention of increasing the NO levels. Agmatine sulfate however, works as a pump amplifier by prolonging its lifespan by preventing NO breakdown. I have no complaints here; good stuff.

Taurine is know to have mood enhancing effects, ability to lower cortisol levels, and it is believed to helps prevent oxidative stress induced by exercise. From a pre-workout perspective, this is often promoted as a focus enhancing substance. It is a very common ingredient in pre-workout supplements and there is a good reason for this; it comes with a wide range of benefits. We typically see it dosed around 500 to 3,00 mg. Quite a gap there, but this clearly is a substance with shattered opinions on the proper dosing. Here we get a total of 500 mg.

Verdict on the Vaso Sport from MusclePharm

So this is clearly a non-stimulant pre-workout supplement. You might get a tiny focus boost from the Taurine, but considdering we only get 500mg, you probably wont feel much. Besides from this, there sure are some solid and proven NO boosting substances in here; few but solid ones. If you are looking for a non-stimulant pre-workout, this might be a good choice but nothing crazy. Personally, I think this needs to be stacked with the new Assault, to come close to what else is out there on the market right now. In addition to this, I think all the stuff here, should have formed part of the new assault pre-workout. I don’t really want to deal with two different supplements, as a pre-workout. So yeah – a good choice for the ones looking for a pump based, no stimulant kind of PWO. But personally, I would go for something else.
